Cricket in Fiji has received a major boost with the appointment of Stephen Jenkin, a highly credentialed World Cup winning coach, as the new High Performance Manager for Cricket Fiji.
Stephen comes to Cricket Fiji having most recently worked with Cricket New Zealand as the Head Coach of their Women’s National Team and as Case Manager for the Men’s National Team the Black Caps.
Prior to working in New Zealand Stephen was involved with Cricket Australia coaching the Women’s National Team to a win at the 2005 Women’s World Cup, as well as working at the Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence.
“We are delighted to have a coach of Stephen’s ability join Cricket Fiji,” said Martin Shaw, Cricket Fiji’s General Manager.
“Stephen brings many positives with him to the role. His technical knowledge is among the very best, and he has an excellent knowledge of player development programs and the ability to implement and monitor those programs so that they develop talent to its full potential.”
With a Level 3 Coaching Accreditation Stephen is well placed to take on the challenging position that will include the role of Head Coach of the Men’s National Team.
For his part, Stephen is excited at the prospect of becoming Cricket Fiji’s High Performance Manager.
“Having worked in cricket for many years I am looking forward to the prospect of helping Cricket Fiji’s national team and player development programs become more professional in their approach to the game,” said Stephen.
“While there is plenty of work to be done in order to be successful at the international level there is potential for Fiji to produce talented players, and I look forward to helping the players realise their potential.”
Stephen will commence his role with Cricket Fiji in early April and will work closely with other coaches in the preparation of the Senior, Under 19 and Under 15 National Teams that will compete in this year’s East Asia Pacific Regional Tournament.
