Clark called up to Australian squad

Australian speedster Stuart Clark received a surprise call-up to the one day international squad to replace the injured Brett Geeves.

Clark, who has not played a one day international since September last year, will join the Australian team today and will be available for selection for the fifth ODI against South Africa in the ongoing series.

South Africa currently leads the five-match ODI series 2-1 after winning the third ODI by 25 runs. It was in that match that Brett Geeves fractured his left foot and was subsequently ruled out for the rest of the series.

Clark will also be part of the ODI squad that takes on Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates later this month. This will bolster the Australian pace-attack, with Brett Lee also coming back into the side for that series.

The call to represent Australia in the ongoing series in South Africa came as a pleasant surprise to Clark, who was incidentally preparing to fly out to England for a stint with his county side, Kent.

Clark, himself, revealed that he thought his one day international career was in the past and he was concentrating on other forms of the game.

At the same time, he has recognized the opportunity he has now got and cites it as a good chance to make himself a permanent fixture in the Australian ODI setup.

The fourth ODI between South Africa and Australia will take place tomorrow at Port Elizabeth; while the final ODI is scheduled for April 17 at Johhanesburg.
